An open timber gate in a stone arch, a path leading toward a rising sun

Why Are You Here?

A question asked at the threshold of every journey.

It is one of the simplest questions a person can be asked.

Yet few questions reach more deeply.

Why are you here?

Why are you reading these words?

Why do you seek?

Why do you hope?

Why do you feel that something is missing, even when much has been given to you?

Why do you still listen for a voice beyond your own?

Many years ago, when I was received into the Catholic Church, I was asked a simple question:

Why are you here?

At the time, I thought I knew the answer.

Looking back, I realize I was only beginning to discover it.

The Cathedral of The Fourth was born from that question.

It is not a ministry, a publishing project, or a business.

It is a response to one conviction that has stayed with me since I was received into the Church:

The Father seeks first.

Before we search for God, God searches for us.

Before we speak, God speaks.

Before we love, God loves.

Before we take a single step toward Him, He has already begun the journey toward us.

This simple truth has become the foundation of everything you will find here.

The world often tells us that faith begins when man reaches up to God.

Scripture tells a different story.

Adam hides.

God calls.

Abraham is chosen.

Moses is called.

The prophets are sent.

The shepherds are summoned.

The disciples are found.

Again and again, God speaks first.

The story of salvation is not primarily the story of man searching for God.

It is the story of God searching for man.

The Cathedral exists to explore that story.

Some paths begin with questions.

These are the roads of The Philip Papers, where the pilgrim discovers that Christ has been walking beside him all along.

Some paths begin with Scripture itself.

These are the studies of Scripture Opened, where God’s Word is opened slowly and followed until it finds its fulfilment in Christ.

Some paths are reflections.

Some are simply invitations to pause and listen.

Yet all lead toward the same centre.

At the heart of the Cathedral stands Jesus Christ.

Not as one voice among many.

Not as a symbol.

Not as an idea.

But as the One through whom the Father reveals Himself.

The One who answers the questions that brought you here.

The One who fulfils what God has spoken from the beginning.

The One who receives the exile and leads him home.

If you have arrived here carrying questions, you are welcome.

If you have arrived here carrying doubts, you are welcome.

If you have arrived here carrying faith, you are welcome.

If you are simply curious, you are welcome.

You do not need to begin with certainty.

You need only begin.

For perhaps the most important question is not:

Why are you here?

But:

Who has brought you here?

Welcome to the Cathedral of The Fourth.

May you discover that the Father was seeking you long before you thought to seek Him.

Deo Gratias.
